Michael G. DeHaven

Michael G. DeHaven

Mike is a highly skilled trial attorney with over 20 years of litigation experience, obtaining favorable outcomes in family law, criminal and personal injury cases, including multi-million dollar product liability and premises liability cases. Mike began his legal career in 1988 as a law clerk in the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office, where he was assigned to the domestic violence unit. After passing the bar, Mike became an Assistant State's Attorney for Baltimore County and handled thousands of cases, including serious felonies. As a young lawyer, Mike learned not only how to negotiate, but he gained invaluable experience while trying dozens of jury trials and hundreds of bench trials before Baltimore County Judges. In 1995, Mike left the State's Attorneys Office and spent a year working for another "AV"-rated Towson law firm, primarily representing members of the Maryland State Teachers Association in criminal and civil matters.

In 1996, Mike joined Bodie, initially working on product liability cases in addition to continuing his criminal defense practice. Although Mike still handles criminal and personal injury matters, he has developed a passion for family law cases. Throughout his tenure at Bodie, Mike has worked on many family law matters, including pre-marital agreements, divorce, child custody and support, spousal support, alimony, adoption and domestic violence protective orders. Mike truly enjoys helping clients successfully navigate the court system and is a tireless advocate who helps his clients deal with not just the legal, but the emotional aspects of separation, divorce and child custody issues. Mike uses his experience to attempt to obtain a favorable compromise for all of his family law clients, because he understands that either divorcing spouses will decide what is in their child's best interest and how to equitably distribute their property or a judge will decide those issues for them. Compromise in divorce cases requires reasonable spouses and attorneys and when the opposing party is unreasonable, Mike uses his litigation experience and zealously advocates for his clients.

Mike is licensed to practice in the State of Maryland and is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association (Family & Juvenile Law Section), the Baltimore County Bar Association, and the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association. He is also active in several civic and charitable organizations, including: The Carroll Manor Recreation Council, where he has served as a Commissioner for the soccer program, coaches baseball and basketball, and served on the baseball board of directors; the Martin J. Smith foundation, which raises funds for scholarships for local high school students in need of financial assistance, as a Director; The Greater Jacksonville Association, having served on the land use committee; and, Immaculate Conception Parrish, where he has taught religious education.

Mike is a graduate of Frostburg State College (B.A., 1986) and the University of Baltimore School of Law (J.D., 1990).
