Art Caltrider

Mr. Caltrider began his practice in 1984 with a Baltimore firm where he was a partner and by 1999 had tried to verdict over 100 jury trials. Mr. Caltrider practiced in the areas of construction, transportation, toxic tort, defamation and 1983 actions.

Arthur P Caltrider

In 1999, Mr. Caltrider was recruited by St. Paul Insurance Company to manage their high exposure litigation in the Northeast. In 2004, there was a merger with Travelers Insurance Company and in 2005, Mr. Caltrider was promoted to Vice President – Associate Group General Counsel responsible for managing significant litigation across all 50 states in 16 different business lines.

In 2009, Mr. Caltrider decided to leave Travelers Insurance Company and return to the courtroom joining the law firm of Bodie Dolina Hobbs Friddell & Grenzer, PC. and in 2012, was named director.

Insurance Defense

Mr. Caltrider’s experience includes matters in the following areas:
Product liability, wrongful death, 1st party property loss, excess and surplus, maritime, premises liability, clergy abuse, aviation, public sector, oil and gas, riparian rights, entertainment, transportation, mining, defamation, non-profit liability and medical malpractice. Mr. Caltrider handles matters for major commercial and regional carriers as well as the Lloyds’ market.

Construction

Mr. Caltrider represents builders and individuals in a variety of matters including property line disputes, construction defect litigation, construction bodily injury litigation, construction contract litigation and mechanics lien litigation.

Commercial / Business

Mr. Caltrider has a growing commercial business practice involving business formation, tax consideration, business advise, business dissolution , bankruptcy, covenant not to compete litigation, employee matters, shareholder agreements and general employment litigation.

Religious Organizations

Mr. Caltrider has experience representing institutions and clergy from different faiths in a variety of matters, including contract disputes, premises liability, property line disputes, clergy sexual abuse, employment disputes and institutional department disputes. Mr. Caltrider was a religion major in college.

Professional Organizations

Mr. Caltrider is a member of the American Bar Association (Tort and Insurance Practice Section), Maryland State Bar Association, Baltimore County Bar Association, Maryland Association of Defense Trial Counsel, Forum on the Construction Industry, Federal Trial Bar Association, the Fourth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States He was appointed in 2008 by Chief Judge Robert Bell to serve on the Accommodations Review Committee (ARC). The ARC hears appeals of bar applicants denied accommodations under the ADA. He holds an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell and was nominated and selected as a member of the Counsel on Litigation Management in 2010.

Community Service

Mr. Caltrider heads the Baltimore Chapter of Washington & Lee (W&L) University Elrod Fellowship; an alumni based group that connects recent W&L graduates that seek a 1 year post graduate position with a non- profit that focuses on fighting poverty in our community. Mr. Caltrider serves on the Board of the Sheppard Program. Mr. Caltrider is a member of the Board and legal counsel to
Pastoral Counseling Services of Maryland.

Educational

Mr. Caltrider graduated from Washington and Lee University (B.A. 1980 cum laude) and the University of Baltimore School of Law (1983).
